BUDGETING AND SHOPPING

Loom with Plastic Needle/Weaving tool

The Loom I used which I got as a present is one found at a local craft store such as Michaels or Joanns or at an online provider such as Amazon. Typically the looms range from $15 to $20 dollars and include 4 looms varying in size, contain a weaving hook, a plastic needle and a guide, however be sure to check for ocassional 50% coupons at retail stores which could be applied to this purchase. This would bring the cost between $7.50 and $10 dollars. The loom which I used for my process is the second largest one and typically orange which is for a standard size hat or one for an adult. However, you can use whatever loom whether larger or smaller to make whatever size you like because the process will be indentical. For information on the making process go to the next page.

Yarn:

Yarn alike fabric has hundred of styles varying in prices. I had this yarn at home, however the yarn I used varies in price from $2.00 dollars with an occasional 50% coupon at Michaels to $5.00 dollars. Some yarns can go up to $8.00 dollars, however when taking into account what yarn to buy consider your favorite color, budget, and texture.

Owl Fabric for pants

In the construction of the pants I created a size x-small pair and used exactly one yard of a cotton fabric from Joanns. There are thousands of fabrics and quite frankly it can be a bit confusing to choose a fabric. In my case I chose the owl pattern because I love the color blue, has owls and was on sale. So, when choosing a fabric take into consideration your personal tastes and budget since fabrics cost from $2 a yard to $20 a yard. In my case after discounts I paid $3.49 for a yard which allowed me to complete the pants.

Fabric for Sleeping Top

The warm cotton fabric I used was also bought from Joanns and cost roughly $1.60 for half a yard. I was able to finish the entire top with only half of the yard I bought.

Needle, thread, and Metal Cap

Needle, thread, and a metal cap to avoid poking oneself are fairly cheap and easy to find just about anywhere. They can be found at target, craft stores, online, and at some dollars stores. Although I did not have to buy any materials since I had them at home, thread tends to cost from $1 to $5 dollars and often come with a needle while the metal caps to prevent yourself from getting poked cost about $1 dollar.

*OPTIONAL*

Elastics and Patterns

Elastics are not necessarily important but they can be a touch to a piece of clothing when you want it to stretch or when you want to a make an accompanying scrunchie. Elastics are very cheap and can be found everywhere for about $1 dollar. I myself got mine at a dollar store.

Patterns although not required for making a piece of clothing can be a very helpful tool for beginning sewers. Patterns have the outline of the way to cut the piece depending on the size and item of clothing. They are very easy to use all you have to do is align the fabric with the pattern and cut according to the outline. Patterns alike yarn and fabric cost differently depending on the intricacy of the piece of clothing your making. However, they can range from $1 to $20 dollars and can be found at craft stores or Walmart ( where I bought mine ).
